Allumee at the 2024 Lemon Festival

Every year, the city of Menton, the pearl of the French Riviera, transforms into a veritable citrus paradise to celebrate its traditional Lemon Festival. For its 90th edition, this iconic event brilliantly combined tradition and innovation with a variety of activities, workshops, and festive evenings over more than fifteen days, from February 17 to March 3, 2024.

Attracting no fewer than 200,000 visitors each year from all walks of life who come to admire gigantic sculptures made of citrus fruits and take part in festivities brimming with color and vitality, we had the honor of dazzling, for the second time, the sky over Menton during the nighttime parade on Thursday, February 29.

The event's highlight activities

Every year, the Lemon Festival offers a wide variety of exciting activities for all ages. Here are the highlights of the fifteen-day event:

    • The Gardens of Light: Temporary exhibitions come to life, made up of thousands of lemons and oranges, forming giant sculptures and impressive patterns.
    • The Corso des Fruits d’Or and Nighttime Parades: A sunny parade on Thursday evenings where flower-covered floats and marching bands create a festive atmosphere, winding through the streets to the rhythm of music and dancing.
    • Craft Exhibitions: Local craftsmanship takes center stage, showcasing unique creations inspired by citrus fruits at the Craft Fair.
    • Workshops and Tastings: Visitors can discover Menton’s rich culinary heritage through cooking workshops and tastings of local products, where the lemon is, of course, the star of the show.
    • The Orchid Festival: A true escape, the Orchid Festival offers us a moment of serenity—a haven of peace away from the hustle and bustle of the festivities.

The Theme: From Olympia to Menton

By selecting “From Olympia to Menton” as its theme, the Lemon Festival highlights not only the historical significance of the Olympic Games but also their ability to inspire and bring people together across geographical and cultural boundaries. This could take the form of artistic displays and citrus sculptures celebrating Olympic sports, legendary athletes, and iconic symbols such as the Olympic torch or the Olympic rings—all interpreted with Menton’s unique flair.

Thus, this theme offers an opportunity to explore and celebrate cultural diversity and global unity—values cherished by both the Olympic Games and the Lemon Festival. Visitors could discover exhibits and activities reflecting the cultures of the countries participating in the Olympic Games, fostering a dialogue between sports, art, and tradition.

A performance that blends sports and citrus fruits

Our hybrid show featuring no fewer than 200 drones began at dusk during the nighttime parade on Thursday, February 29, transforming the sky over the city of Menton into a living canvas. Thanks to a fleet of drones equipped with LED lights, for the second consecutive year we told a captivating visual story, paying tribute to the essence of the Lemon Festival and the cultural richness of Menton—but that’s not all….

The dynamic drone formations illustrated a variety of themes, from the lemon-hued landscapes of Menton to designs that directly referenced the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games, taking place this year in Paris, featuring visuals such as a cyclist, an Olympic flame, and a basketball, all synchronized with captivating music.
