A ONE-OF-A-KIND SHOW BY THE LIGHT OF THE MANTIS

The ” Lueurs de Mantes” event, which lit up the city of Mantes-la-Jolie from December 16 to February 10, 2024, is a remarkable cultural event, demonstrating the city’s ability to reinvent itself and offer its residents and visitors a unique and memorable experience. The Allumee team had the honor of celebrating the end of these light displays with a one-of-a-kind drone show!

This article takes an in-depth look at the first edition of this event, highlighting its origins, objectives, and highlights, as well as its impact on cultural and tourism development.

The Origins of the Lueurs de Mantes

Located in the heart of the Île-de-France region, Mantes-la-Jolie is a city rich in history and cultural heritage. In an effort to enhance its image and boost its appeal, the city launched the “Lueurs de Mantes” event this year .

Inspired by international light festivals, this project aims to highlight the city’s iconic landmarks and public spaces through artistic light installations and large-scale projections. The initiative not only highlights the architectural beauty of Mantes-la-Jolie but also aims to create a space for socializing and sharing for everyone.

Allumee wraps up the event in a magical atmosphere

To bring the Lueurs de Mantes event to a spectacular close, a breathtaking drone show was staged, featuring 200 drones in the night sky over Mantes-La-Jolie. Under the theme of “(Re)birth, this aerial ballet—visible from the city’s banks of the Seine—served as a powerful metaphor for renewal and hope, symbolizing the city’s rebirth through its cultural initiatives.

Set to a soundtrack composed especially for the occasion by musician Maxime Olsson, our original show—which brought the light display to a close—drew a crowd of nearly 9,000 people, including locals and tourists, families, friends, and couples.

This technological feat, blending art and innovation, not only left a lasting impression with its beauty and originality but also highlighted Mantes-la-Jolie’s commitment to reinventing itself and inspiring others, making this an unforgettable moment for all spectators.

In addition, our drone show was produced in close collaboration with musician Maxime Olson, Marianne Collobert, the city’s event project manager, lighting designer Benjamin Nesme, and many talented lighting technicians!

A Cultural and Tourism Initiative

“Les Lueurs de Mantes ” is part of a broader initiative to promote the city’s cultural and tourism development. As such, the event aims to:

  • Promoting heritage: By illuminating historic sites, the event offers a new perspective on the city’s heritage, encouraging its rediscovery and appreciation.
  • Promoting community spirit: By bringing residents together around a shared project, the event strengthens social bonds and community cohesion.
  • Boosting the local economy: By attracting visitors from the region and beyond, the Lueurs de Mantes stimulate economic activity, benefiting local businesses, hotels, and restaurants.

Other highlights of the event

The first edition of Lueurs de Mantes featured several highlights and drew a large audience. Among the most popular installations were:

  • Projections on the Collegiate Church: This historic building has served as a canvas for narrative light shows that blend local history with contemporary artistic creations under the name “ Collégiale Light Show.”
  • The Light Trail: a walk through the city, dotted with temporary light installations, allowed visitors to rediscover urban spaces in a new light.
  • Participatory workshops: Activities that involved residents in the creation of light installations strengthened their sense of belonging to the community.

More than just positive results

The first edition of “Lueurs de Mantes” had a significant impact on the city and its residents. The event not only helped improve Mantes-la-Jolie’s image but also fostered a sense of pride among its residents. The influx of visitors had a positive impact on the local economy, highlighting the city’s potential as a tourist destination.

Beyond these aspects, the Lueurs de Mantes have also laid the groundwork for a broader discussion on the role of culture and art in public spaces. Given its success, this event is encouraging the municipality to continue along this path, and plans are already underway for new, enriched, and expanded editions.
