Teotihuacán: a site unlike any other in the world to host a festival
Even before a single note was played, the setting had already set the tone. Located 40 kilometers northeast of Mexico City, Teotihuacán is one of the largest and most extensively studied archaeological sites in the world. Built by a civilization that predated the Aztecs by several centuries, the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon have stood for more than two thousand years, silent witnesses to the rise and fall of entire empires.
Choosing this venue wasn’t just a logistical decision. It was a true statement of intent. Wolfpack Entertainment and Attlada, the event organizers, had promised something truly unique. They kept their word.
The event’s concept: a set from sunset to sunrise
The festival ran from 4 p.m. until sunrise the next morning. More than 12 hours of nonstop music in one of the most extraordinary natural and historic settings on the planet.
At golden hour, hot-air balloons floated above the crowd, transforming the sky into an extraordinary open-air dance floor and setting the visual tone for a breathtaking production, from the very first moment to the very last.
The lineup lived up to the event’s high expectations: Shimza, Arodes, Axel Collins B2B Ulysses, Becheranó B2B All Matter, Isa Roos, Marc Ó Marco B2B Espian, and The Áche took the stage one after another before Black Coffee closed out the night as the headliner. Each set ramped up the energy. With every passing hour, the atmosphere grew more intense. When the pyramids were completely plunged into darkness, the crowd of 20,000 was ready to experience something they hadn’t yet imagined.
The drone show: the highlight of Black Coffee’s set
A creative vision rooted in history
Allumee was chosen by the organizers to lead the creative and technical coordination of the drone show, working directly with Black Coffee’s artistic directors to ensure that the performance would be both personal and spectacular.
The result: a show with real soul. Antoine, lead artist at Allumee, describes the narrative thread that runs through each scene: “The show tells the story of the connection between the stars and Earth, and what that meant to pre-Columbian civilizations as embodied by the imposing Pyramid of the Sun. It then bridges the gap between that ancient world and the modern era through electronic music, paying homage to the work of Black Coffee.”
7 scenes and an 8-minute show featuring 600 choreographed drones, taking the audience on a journey through the millennia—from the cosmology of a pre-Columbian civilization to the beats of contemporary electronic music. A story told entirely through light, set against one of humanity’s most enduring monuments.
The Logistical Challenge Behind the Magic
What the audience took for granted required considerable preparation and problem-solving. Yorick, Allumee’s event manager for this show, explains: “Performing at a UNESCO World Heritage Site imposes constraints that would deter many a production. Narrow access roads, limited floor space due to surrounding buildings, and strict heritage regulations: every logistical detail had to be anticipated, negotiated, and finalized well before a single drone took off. None of these complexities were visible that night. That was precisely the goal.”

At the event, 15,000 phones lit up all at once
When the first drones took to the Mexican sky, something shifted in the crowd.
And when the first shape appeared, the audience was taken by surprise and completely captivated: “More than 15,000 phones were held up the moment the show started. People started cheering as soon as they saw the artist’s face appear in the sky,” recalls Yorick.
At a carefully chosen moment during the set, 600 drones maintained their formation long enough to form a portrait in the sky: Black Coffee’s face, suspended in the bright light.
Even the artist turned around and looked up!
No description really does it justice, and Yorick doesn’t try to explain it too much: “I think the video speaks for itself.” What he does come back to is the emotion felt behind the scenes: “This production was like a dream come true. I had chills all over my body when the last drone landed.”
Online, a viral moment with millions of views
In the hours following the set, photos and videos spread like wildfire on social media, and continued to gain traction in the days that followed, eventually reaching several million views across all platforms.
Zélie, head of marketing and communications at Allumee, breaks down the anatomy of this viral moment: “We’re talking about 22,000 people sharing a single, deeply moving moment as they watched their favorite DJ perform at one of the most iconic sites on the planet. The drone show was part of a perfectly cohesive artistic production, from the hot-air balloons at the start of the evening all the way to the finale. Everything came together to create something truly rare—a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Exactly as the organizers had promised. ” Within 12 hours, the images posted by Allumee had racked up more than 20,000 views and over 1,000 likes. Black Coffee’s post, meanwhile, surpassed 70,000 likes and 4,600 shares.
A review I found online sums up this feeling perfectly: “It had been a while since I’d been out, but something told me I had to be there, and honestly… it might have been one of the most beautiful moments of my life. I never would have imagined having an experience like this. Black Coffee performed while it was still dark out, and on top of that, there was this incredible drone show. Simply sublime.”

For a man who has turned his personal struggles into a Grammy-winning career, Teotihuacán was the perfect setting. Black Coffee has always created music that sounds both ancient and futuristic. On April 18, 2026, this description ceased to be a metaphor, and his artistic direction team truly delivered an epic event worthy of his legacy.
